Over 350 guests attended the auction fundraiser, expertly hosted by SurfTime Magazine Editor-In-Chief Matt George, and held at the beautiful Uluwatu Surf Villas overlooking the Indian Ocean. All proceeds from the auction will help fund ESRU clean-up projects and environmental initiatives at world-famous Uluwatu beach, one of the greatest surf spots in the world.
Among the prized items auctioned off Saturday night was original artwork by American artist Kevin Walsh, rare collectable surfboards, and historic surfing memorabilia. The two items fetching the highest bids of the evening were the Dream Sessions, where the winning bidders get to surf the world-famous waves at Uluwatu and Padang Padang for one hour with just a few friends. The Uluwatu surf session with lifeguard-enforced crowd control sold for an impressive 9.1 million IDR (over $1,200 US). The one-hour empty Padang Padang dream session fetched an impressive 15 million IDR.

“We are proud to be part of such a successful event to help preserve the Island's most famous surf spot - Uluwatu,” said Rip Curl Southeast Asia's James Hendy. “The auction was a smashing success, both in raising money and in raising awareness about the work ESRU is doing to protect this spot.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of the Rip Curl Cup event merchandise will also be donated to ESRU, 'Were really excited and looking forward to seeing how many T-shirts and other event merchandise we can sell during the Padang Cup,” Hendy said, “so we can add to our total contribution to ESRU.
Curtis Lowe ESRU Project Manager commented - We were all there for the same reason and together we made big progress in raising the funds needed to make Uluwatu a cleaner place. We'd like to thank all the great people who came out and made it such a successful and fun night!

About Eco Surf Rescue Uluwatu
Started by a group of expat surfers in Bali, ESRU was formed when NGOs GUS Foundation and ROLE Foundation teamed up with the surf industry, local businesses and residents to address the pollution problems at Uluwatu. The ESRU mission is to work with locals to provide solid and liquid waste infrastructure that keeps Uluwatu clean and beautiful. We hope the world-famous surf break will one day become a pristine and healthy World Surf Heritage Area for the benefit of the Uluwatu community and future generations.
Right now ESRU is working to keep the newly installed solid waste and recycling system running. Next, ESRU will install a professionally designed and environmentally friendly liquid waste system to finally solve the problem of leaking sewage and kitchen waste water.

About the Rip Curl Cup
Now in its ninth year, the Rip Curl Cup Invitational at Padang Padang is Indonesia’s longest-running surfing competition and the only ISC tour event featuring top international surfers alongside Indonesia’s best. The field of 32 surfers is split equally between 16 of Indonesia’s all-time greatest and 16 of the world’s best barrel riders. This invitational format, along with the allure of the wave at Padang and a $10,000 prize purse, makes the Rip Curl Cup the most anticipated event of the Indonesian surf season.
For 2012, Rip Curl has extended the event waiting period to a grand total of six weeks to ensure catching an epic swell for the “one-day, one-swell” event. This year's window will run from July 15th through August 26th and the contest will be run entirely on the chosen day. When contest directors see an ideal “Padang swell” in the forecast, they will give the green light and the 32 competitors will have 24 hours to make it to Bali’s Bukit P
