Journey's Custom Surfboard, Bali Indonesia
To many of our surfers from Malaysia or even others, being at the shaper's room or surfboard factory is kinda a rare experience. At most, surfers from here will likely get a "off the shelf" surfboards in Bali or in KL. Unlike any other experience, staying at shaper's room and discussing the right custom boards that suits you is one of the best feelings being a surfer and seeing how a surfboard is born........is so unreal.
Unlike my previous visit to surfboard factory & shaper's room, this time i'm heading down to Bali to meet up with one of my friend who is currently shaping hollow wooden & veneer Surfboards. This is like a lifetime experience walking back to the ancient time when surfboard was just a piece of wood at the present time.
The moment i step in Journey in Canggu (10mins from Echo Beach), i was amazed with the "magical" touch of this place where u see all hollow wooden surfboards, wooden veneer surfboards & wooden alaias on display. The finishing of the surfboard was so incredible that i keep on staring at the boards and just standing still, living in my own world..."mesmerized".

Almost didnt realise that time passed so fast as both of us chatting and discussing about surfboards and surf spots in Bali and so on.....Besides the boards, Markus also explained to me about his custom handshape fins that he made specially for each boards. He spend alot of time understanding each boards and how the fins react to each board individually.

Besides all the surfboards and fin's, i also notice couple of longboard and asked Markus how did he go about producing his own downhill wooden deck? The deck looks really solid and beautiful.....
Skateboarding was created by surfers when they realise the period of surfing in the water is limited, the surfers decided to find a way to surf on land....and skateboard was born!!

Towards the end, i came to a conclusion that i'm getting a custom board for myself as well!!!!! Discussed with Markus about the right design & size board for me, he suggested me to get a 6'0" wooden veneer boards for my next season in Malaysia. Just can't wait to try my new veneer board and Markus is very confident that im gonna be stoked with his custom board especially for waves condition like Malaysia!!! We also discuss the possibilities to have Journey's boards distributed in Malaysia, he was looking positive about it! Till then.....you will be seeing more hollow wooden & wooden veneer surfboards in our coast pretty soon.
