1 May 2012,
Kuta-Bali: Surfer Girl, the
all-girls lifestyle brand born and raised in Bali, is proud to introduce the
Surfer Girl Team Riders for 2012, a fun loving and dedicated group of six young
girls who have been hand picked to represent the Surfer Girl brand in Indonesia
and beyond.
Ranging from 9 to
14 years of age, these girls represent the key values of the Surfer Girl
heritage with a passion for surfing and a healthy outdoor living as well as a
caring and sharing attitude towards others and the environment. Their mission is to share their passion
for surfing and the surfing lifestyle with girls of all ages, motivating them
to get out and surf, learn new skills, and experience new adventures.
According to Rusma
Made, Surfer Girl’s General Manager, “At Surfer Girl we encourage girls to
believe in themselves and to be the best that they can be. We are committed to supporting the
surfing community here in Bali and in Indonesia by developing this next generation
of talented young girl surfers.
Our aim is to get girls out there surfing and having fun, but also
learning new things. We are committed to make a positive difference through
everything we do.”
The girls will
be joining in local surfing competitions such as the Magic Wave Grommet Series,
the Indonesian Pro Amateur Surfing Championships, and eventually the Coca-Cola
Indonesian Surfing Championships, as well as taking weekend surf trips to
various surf spots around Bali, Lombok, and Java.
10-year-old
Joniati “Cinta” Hansel is the newest member of the Surfer Girl team and is very
excited, saying, “I’m so happy to be a Surfer Girl team rider! It’s nice to be surfing together with
my friend Taina (Izquiredo) on the same team, and to be able to join in
competitions together.” Cinta, the daughter of surfboard shaper Bruce Hansel, has
set some big goals for herself; the first is to surf at Padang-Padang (Bali’s
most legendary and dangerous wave), and second is to become world champion!
The oldest girl
on the team is 14 year old Salini Rengganis, who lives in the seaside town of
Pacitan in East Java, a predominately Muslim community where it is rarity to
find girls or women surfing or active in any water related sports. Salini has already competed in numerous
surfing events dating back to 2006, when she joined her first local “Hidden
Point” surf competition. Her
favorite motto is “Seek the fellowship of at least one new person each day,
regardless of that persons social status.”
The rest of the
team is made up of Panini “Pua” Johnson (13) and her sister Kailani who live in
Nusa Dua, (10), Dhea Dhani (11) from Kuta, and Taina Izquiredo (10) who lives
just above Padang-Padang on the Bukit Peninsula of Bali.
“We’re so happy
to have found such a great group of girls to represent the Surfer Girl brand,
“said Dewi Prasodjo, Head of Marketing Communications at Surfer Girl. “We invite you to follow along with our
team’s adventures via our website at http://surfer-girl.com and on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/ ilovesurfergirl. It will be lots of
fun, we promise!”

About Surfer
Girl
Surfer Girl is a
lifestyle brand fueled by “LOVE, NATURE, FRIENDS, & FUN”. Our roots are in
the beautiful island of Bali so we grew up with some of the best waves on the
Planet Earth. Surfer Girls was born in the Summer of ’98 on the surfing
paradise island of Bali in a small one-room shop on Jalan Legian 138, Kuta.
Today the
popularity of “The Best All Girls Surf Shop in The World” and its figurehead
Summer has led to the development and production of the Surfer Girl brand and
clothing line. Our dream is to continue to be "The Best All Girls Surf
Shop in The World," not stopping at the top but moving beyond that so the
Surfer Girl brand also becomes "The Happiest Clothing Line in The
World" and the development of Summer and the crew" as quality humans
that can be a positive inspiration to others. At present, there are 7 Surfer
Girl Brand stores in Bali and 7 Surfer Girl counters in Point Break World
stores across Indonesia. See more at:
